Promoting Gardening in our Community
Bryant Street Planters: A number of merchants along Bryant Street have contacted with the Highland Park Garden Club for the creation of beautiful annual flower planters placed in front of their business, beautifying the neighborhood business district. Club members prepare the planters with spring annuals and set them out in early spring, provide a seasonal flower change at the start of summer, decorate with festive greens at the holidays, and put the planters “to bed” for the year after the holiday.
Highland Park Pillar Gardens: Members of the HPGC designed, planted, and maintain the flower beds by the “pillars” at the main entrance to Highland Park. The plants were mostly donated from the gardens of club members. They are native to Western PA, deer-resistant, and pollinator-friendly.
East Liberty Library Flower Beds: Members of the HPGC maintain and update the planters located at the front of the East Liberty branch of the Carnegie Library, watering, mulching, dead-heading flowers, and trimming plants as needed, and attending to seasonal tasks such as planting fall bulbs for spring blooms. The flowers attract many pollinators. People walking by and patrons of the library love it!
