HIGHLAND PARK GARDEN CLUB

Thanks to the almost 850 visitors who strolled through the neighborhood on Sunday, July 11, marveling at the unique plants, garden features and designs showcased in the first-ever Highland park Garden Tour. The selected gardens demonstrated the beauty and creativity of the Secret Gardens of Highland Park. Ponds,“she-sheds”, outdoor living rooms, a compact urban vegetable garden, multi-level decks and a stunning pool were only a few of the many attractions.

A highlight of the Secret Tour was the 1905 Lockmaster’s garden “Choderwood” along the Allegheny River. You have probably passed this hundreds of times and never knew it was there. Visitors were introduced to this leafy green oasis within the City, with its stone pathways, koi pond, stream, greenhouse-enclosed swimming pool, Mediation Hut, and chicken and duck coops.

The Secret Garden Tour was presented by the Highland Park Garden Club and the Highland Park Community Council, and was possible only through the generosity of many garden owners, sponsors, and volunteers. Thanks to one and all who contributed to a very successful and enjoyable event.
